How long should I hold a stretch? 🤔 If you’re wanting to improve flexibility, holding your stretches for at least 1 minute is a good target 🎯 Our muscles have a natural stretch reflex (which stops sudden excessive stretching & protects us from injury) SO, if you are purposely stretching to gain flexibility you should aim to gently stretch through this reflex... Flexibility is all about time under tension, it takes around 20secs to ease through the stretch reflex & then all the gains happen after that! 💪🏼😁 If you focus on taking big breaths it also makes it wayyyy less painful & easier to get deeper 😌 BONUS...here’s my personal secret to really improving my flexibility: Stretch everything twice over! Along with stretching a little bit every day (usually after my workouts), 1-2 times a week I’ll do a deep stretch session and double stretch things like splits, back bends, and trouble spots like my hip flexors and glutes 😉 The second time round allows your body to get deeper into your stretch & also build better muscle memory for future flexibility! 🤗 #flexibilitytraining #stretching ab♥️x . Just landed in Sydney! 🙌🏼 I watched a documentary on the plane about plastic pollution (specifically in our oceans). I’ve seen a few of these types of docs and every time it gets me thinking about what I can do to reduce my plastic footprint 👊🏼 We not perfect, and we can’t all just stop using plastic full stop, but there are definitely simple things we can adjust in our day that will make a BIG difference 🙌🏼🌏 1. Stop using plastic shopping bags and bring your own! (I’ve been doing this for a while and it just become habit! Have a few in your car, handbag etc) 2. Don’t buy bottled water in plastic. Choose glass or better yet, get your own re-usable bottle. 3. Get a reusable keep cup for your coffee! Take away coffee cups have plastic lining and can’t be recycled! plus the lids are usually plastic too! (You’ve all seen my pretty glass @keepcup 😉) 4. Don’t use plastic drinking straws! Say no, or bring your own metal/bamboo/silicon/decompostable one (just throw a few in your bag just incase) 5. Reduce the amount if glad wrap (cling wrap) that you use...try reusable air tight containers, jars, eco wax wraps... 6. Use eco bin liners (bags) there are plenty of brands that now make decompostable bin bags! . If you guys have any more plastic hacks please write them below!! 😬👇🏼 Let’s keep the ideas coming!!
